Important Silverlight Spy has been replaced by XAML Spy. XAML Spy supports more platforms and offers far more features. If you are interested in Silverlight Spy, you are strongly encouraged to take a look at XAML Spy, its successor.
Licensed Silverlight Spy users can easily upgrade to XAML Spy.
Silverlight Spy is a runtime inspector tool providing unprecedented access to all aspects of any Silverlight in-browser, out-of-browser and Windows Phone 7 application. Explore the UI element tree, monitor events, extract XAML, interactively execute DLR code, view statistics and more.
Silverlight Spy comes in a free and licensed edition. Before deciding whether to purchase a licensed edition, you can try the fully functional evaluation edition of the product for a limited period of time.
The free edition of Silverlight Spy provides a limited but useful set of features that allow you to spy on Silverlight applications for free. See the comparison chart below for more details about the features that are available in the free edition.
You can try all features of the product for a limited period (3 weeks) before deciding whether to purchase a license. After the evaluation period you can purchase a license or continue using the free edition.
There are two types of licenses; a commercial and a personal license. Both licenses allow access to all features of Silverlight Spy. The main difference is that a commercial license is transferrable from one developer to another. A personal license is non-transferable.
Please note that commercial licenses are not equal to floating licenses. The number of individuals permitted to use the software is limited to the number of purchased licenses. One commercial license is required per each single developer using the software, regardless of whether such use is occasional or full-time.

The following software packages are prerequisites to using Silverlight Spy:
If you have purchased a license of Silverlight Spy 4, you can download and install this copy. Start Silverlight Spy, enter the license key and Silverlight Spy will work as a full version. If you already entered a license key, which has not expired, you can safely install this copy over your existing Silverlight Spy installation.
A commercial license is available to legal entities, including companies and organizations (both for profit and non-profit). The license allows for use by a single individual within that organization and can be transferred from one developer to another. The number of individuals permitted to use the software is limited to the number of purchased licenses (not a floating license).
If you want to purchase a license, and you are the only person planning to use that license, then the personal license is for you. Personal licenses are non-transferable.
Commercial licenseVolume discounts (applied automatically):
When you purchase Silverlight Spy you will receive a license key. Click the Enter license key button in the dialog that appears when you start an unregistered copy of the program and enter your key. Once the key is entered you will be able to use all features of Silverlight Spy and you will no longer see the startup dialog.
A license entitles you to free updates, including bug fixes and new features for up to one year after the original purchase. After one year, you are no longer entitled to updates, but you may continue to use the product. To receive an additional year of updates, you'll need to renew your license. A license renewal is 50% the cost of a new license.
You will receive a renewal notification email when your license is about to expire. The renewal notification contains a purchase link that allows you to take advantage of the renewal discount of 50%. There's a grace period of 15 days, after which the link will expire. Contact us if you haven't received a notification email.
You can also choose to automatically renew your license. The auto-renew option can be enabled and disabled at any time. See also the Software Buyers FAQ.
